“If we don’t act now our children might one day turn on the tap for a glass of water and there won’t be any clean fresh drinking water. That means that we have to get serious today about finding the most efficient ways to use water and look for alternative water supplies.”
Dennis Cavagna, Former Managing Director, South East Water, 5 May, 2006

Water remains scarce.

Water reform continues to dominate politics, business and industry. Water issues also remain hugely important to the lives of everyday Australians.

Building and developing our water strategy continues to be an extremely important challenge in political, business and consumer forums. Our water resources - or lack thereof - remain a politically sensitive subject that increasingly impacts upon business across the country.

The 2007 Federal Election will be underpinned by issues in water infrastructure, pricing and policy, while state governments, local councils, water entities and private companies are keyed into the delivery of projects aimed to secure water supply into the future.

The role of the controversial Murray Darling Water Plan in Steve Bracks’ resignation as Victorian Premier, consistent developments in water infrastructure and planning, and the increasing costs of water country-wide are examples contributing to the continued importance of water in Australia’s collective sub-conscious.

More decisions are being made on improving and developing sustainable water policies. Infrastructure is being built, repaired and upgraded, shortages continue to be safeguarded against and climate scenarios in relation to water are being explored.

What achievements has your organisation made to combat the lack of our most valuable resource?

Continuing industry-wide upheaval makes the 6th Annual Australian Water Summit a must attend event for water industry professionals and will deliver best practice presentations and case studies on issues such as:

  • National and state policies for continued water reform

  • Comprehensive updates from senior executives of Australian water companies, both urban and rural

  • Water infrastructure project developments including dams, desalination, piping and recycling schemes

  • Discussion of water pricing, trade initiatives, and the role of governance in water

  • The effect of restrictions on water demand management, planning and project delivery

  • Technological advances in the water market

  • International viewpoints on water management

The 6th Annual Australian Water Summit will build on the success of the 2007 program that featured Australia’s strongest collection of water company chiefs, industry leaders, and government policy shapers to discuss and debate issues in the water industry.

The 2008 event will delve into important developments in the water industry, establishing key information through presentations, case study scenarios and interactive panel sessions that you can apply to your role.
